33 3rd Street Ashland, in the basement
i had seen a posting on facebook from indulge, was not really sure where it was, i had never seen it so i was confused, but i had been by its location, walked even, but it was hiding! they opened up in the underground marketplace at 33 3rd street. yes, it is the half underground level of the building on 3rd and main street in ashland. i have really only walked by the lower entrance a couple times but looking in from the street looked not too inviting, this was a few years in the past for this more handicap entrance to the underground level. the entrance on main, it’s in the middle of the building, confusing, and looks like you do not belong walking down the stairs as it feels like a private area looking at it. as if you do not belong is the opposite, you need to go.
so when i was growing up (well. still has not happened) but back in the 70s 80s… cheesecake was…. here have cheesecake. no flaming hot peanut butter with butterfly kisses and sprinkles from the love flower of the amazon rain forest flavor. just cheesecake. i tasted a bite. oh yum, a big hunk of cream cheese to swallow, help me, somebody. so i no longer count that bite as ever having cheesecake. that was cream cheese that was so somehow eat.
i was out walking the block from 2nd to 1st to 3rd on main just to see what was about and if people about. a bit of a peek in the “as you like it” window. and there it was. a sandwich sign on the sidewalk that said indulge cheesecake, i had remembered the post from a bit ago on facebook. it was in front of the entrance with the stairs going down. i looked, thought wow it is really ok to go in the basement here? it was also after 7pm! it is ashland when everyone but me is in bed already. i went down the stairs, a bunch of empty little stores spots to rent, a music shop closed, but with items, and the cheesecake place, with customers getting dessert. i looked at the case, and went for one. triple chocolate.
she asked if i would like to have a fork to eat it there, yes there were some tables in the simply decorated area. an area i thought was a bit clunky with a small beverage fridge that looked out of place, some tables feeling like they didn’t know where they should be as furniture… but i went for the no fork. take it to go. if i don’t like it because of my own personal amazing taste. or my personal taste…. i don’t have to sneak it to the trash because of guilt and not liking it.
i went home with it. took a bite. it was so rich, somehow i ate 1/3 of it right then. i finished the rest over the next hour, a bite whenever i walked by. so turns out i like cheesecake. well the triple chocolate one. so what better way to find out if others is i went the next day not long before their closing time at 8 PM (yes that late!). and picked up a peanut butter one. i liked it but not as much. i will have to try that triple chocolate one again to be sure then have the basque blueberry then……
totally worth the stairs and there is always parking in front later in the day.
these are not my pics but here is some of indulge’s pics and some realtor stair pics
